Switching Lab

Today I started on my switching lab.  The lab was written for two 2950 switches, however I have a 2971XL switch with an IOS that is a little older than on the lab.  I was able to do just about everything in the lab, however some changes were needed in the commands to get things to work correctly.  I actually liked it this way as I had to work harder at making it happen and seeing how it all came together.  I’ll more than likely get a...

Frame Relay Switch on a Cisco 2520 Router

My Cisco 2520 Router arrived on Friday from CiscoKits.  I’ve been fairly sick the past few days, so I didn’t get to do my labs like I wanted to this weekend, however I did manage to have enough energy one day to setup the 2520 as a Frame Relay switch.  It didn’t take very long, and now everything is setup and in place so I can do my Frame Relay labs.    My lab continues to grow, I’m now up to 5 routers, two PIX...

T1 lab connection

Today my cat5e cable and ends arrived from DeepSurplus. So I cut myself a short bit of cable, grabbed the four wires I would need for my T1 crossover cable and made the wire. It took me a little longer than normal, only because it’s been a while since I made a cable, and even then I never made many of them as there isn’t much need for me to. However it worked just as needed. I turned on the lab and plugged in the cable and saw...

WIC-1DSU-T1 and T1 crossover cable

I tried to get my two WIC-1DSU-T1’s working together today. I believe I set them up correctly, however I found you can’t just use a normal cross-over cable to connect to two cards together. You need to get (or make) a special T1 cross-over cable. I’ve decided to make it myself. It’s been a few years since I had to do this, so it will be good practice. Here is my setup for my T1 cards. Interface serial 0/1...

Static Routes and Connectivity Lab

I wanted to actually work with my routers tonight so I decided to take a break from watching the CCNA videos on OSPF until tomorrow.  Tonight I got to put my knowledge into action. The diagram that you see is the network I had to setup.  All interfaces needed to be able to ping each other. Router 1 was setup as the DCE with two DCE/DTE cables connected to the two serial interfaces.  This cable then connected to the Serial 0 interface of...

ICND2, Switching, PTP WAN Links, PPP and Frame Relay

I finished up my ICND1 material over the weekend and I think I’m moving along quite nicely.  I am now working on the ICND2 videos, and they  are very involved.  A lot of material to go over.  How I am going about it is to watch all the videos first, just sit back and listen and see how it all works.  This will give me something to build upon.  Once I’m done I’ll do some labs and just run through them and see how things...
