Common router and switch commands

Yesterday I went through lesson five of my CCNA training from Trainsignal.  This lesson focused on the common router and switch commands.  I’ve gone through this lesson once before, however this time around I had all my switches and routers to use while watching the lesson.  I must say I got much more out of it this time and the information will stay with me longer now.  I needed to get a few things ready on my lab first before I...

My CCNA Lab

Now that I have everything in place and I’m done working on my live network for the time being I am able to focus on setting up my CCNA Lab. I think it’s turning out pretty nice, makes the room a bit warm (and loud), but that can be dealt with as I won’t have the lab equipment on all the time.   In fact to make it easier to shut down my entire lab at once I plugged all the routers and switches that deal with just the...

CCNA Exam 640-802

I’ll be reading over all my Cisco materials for the next two months and then at the end of February I will be taking my CCNA Exam from Cisco. I’ve taken certification exams in the past, so I have a pretty good idea of what to expect. I’ll be doing my exam first thing in the morning (which is 10 a.m. for the exam site that is near me). Cisco 2610XM router arrives

Cisco 2610XM router arrives

My replacement Cisco 2610XM router arrived yesterday. I took the AT&T 2wire router offline after I finished doing a quick config of the router. Then I just needed to adjust a few other items such as the Cisco wireless router, had to change its IP address as it was using the same one the router was going to use, then reactivated the DHCP scope on the Windows 2008 server. I then setup OpenDNS on my network, added the DNS forwards to...

Replacement routers and firewalls

Replacement routers and firewalls

I contacted CiscoKits.com about my damaged Cisco 2610XM router and they are sending me a replacement. I highly recommend them, as they are very helpful when it comes to returns and sent me a UPS label to return the broken unit to them at their cost. Plus they are sending me the new router before I even had a chance to send the other one back, which will speed up the time it takes for me to get back and running with Cisco equipment. I...

Cisco 2610XM router dies

Cisco 2610XM router dies

Today ended up being a long day. My trusty little Cisco 2610XM router just died today. Leaving me for a while without access to the internet and my Exchange and Web Servers unable to talk to the outside world.  At first I thought that the power supply just failed, and having a variety of cisco routers available from my cisco lab I tried switching the power supply out.  It didn’t work however, and I found that the power supply of the...
